Civil Design Advantage (CDA) completed the Douglas Parkway Reconstruction project for the cities of Urbandale, Clive, and Waukee. This reconstruction corridor begins slightly west of 156th Street in Urbandale and extends to Alice’s Road in Waukee.
We completed roadway improvements in 2010, involving grading and paving activities for a 73-foot back-to-back typical section. This section transitions from the existing 80-foot back-to-back typical section after the 156th Street intersection. We carefully designed the project to minimize impacts on private property owners by considering the existing right-of-way along the south side of Douglas Parkway. Additionally, we coordinated the design with the proposed elementary school and the Angel Park Development in Clive.
Our work also included final design calculations and construction drawings for a 4-acre wet pond facility, which holds approximately 850,000 cubic feet of storage as part of the Northern Neighborhoods Phase I North Regional Detention Basin. We incorporated excess earthwork from the pond construction into the overall project earthwork balance. This pond is situated in the immediate southwest quadrant of the Douglas Parkway and Berkshire Parkway intersection.
For the Clive portion of Douglas Parkway, we installed decorative street lighting and landscaping, mirroring the existing features along 156th Street. Other project elements included grading, storm sewer installation, two drainage structures, and obtaining necessary permits.
